TJ Jakes said people used to come into his office crying about getting a divorce because their spouse was abusive, sexually assaulting the kids, or having an affair.

He said that now, people come into his office wanting a divorce because “I’m not happy anymore.”

The pursuit of happiness in relationships or marriage is not wrong, but when it becomes the singular motive above a desire to please God, it becomes self destructive, selfish, and sinful.

If you are having difficulty finding happiness in your marriage (or in any aspect of your life), a word of encouragement: don’t focus on it! 👈🏽 The enemy is skilled at deceiving us into focusing all your energy on what you are going through and what you think you are “missing.” .

But God’s prescription is different: “Think on these things—whatever is true, lovely, excellent, praiseworthy, etc.” (Phil 4:8)

Focus on what you want, not what you don’t want. And focus on your personal growth and development. Remember, this too shall pass.
