When you are in alignment with your purpose, you live life “on” purpose and “in” purpose. Everything you do is in divine alignment.

1. DISCOVER THE PROBLEMS YOU ARE CALLED TO SOLVE

Living life on purpose is all about solving the problem you were placed here on earth to solve.  Life leaves clues as to what you’re purpose is. Your purpose is linked to the hardships you’ve gone through, to the way you love to be a blessing to others, and to the dysfunction you can’t stand to see. To be honest, the hardest part is just that–discovering what on earth you were put here on earth to do!

Our heavenly Father is a God of purpose, and everything He created, no matter how useless it may seem (like the cockroach, eww!) is here on purpose and is endowed with an assignment.

If you want to live life on purpose, don’t skip out on taking the time to discover your purpose on earth.

2. DISCOVER THE PROBLEMS YOU ARE NOT CALLED TO SOLVE

There is a divine assignment with your name on it! Be careful not to get your role mixed up with your assignment. You have and will have hundreds of roles throughout life (wife, mother, caregiver, employee, boss, doctor, teacher). But a role isn’t your assignment but rather an avenue through which you can express your assignment.

Once you understand your purpose, learn how to say ”no’ to every assignment that is outside your purpose.

For years I took on different assignments that I could do, at the expense of doing the assignments I should do. Yes, there will be a season where you will do many things that aren’t your purpose in order to help you discover your purpose, but once you discover it, focus on it alone. As Warren Buffett once said:

“The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything.”

Knowing what you aren’t called to do is just as valuable as knowing what you are called to do.

3. DEDICATE YOUR LIFE TO SOLVING THE PROBLEMS YOU ARE HERE TO HELP SOLVE

In his famous 2005 Stanford commencement address Steve jobs hit the nail on the head:

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.”

The One I know who had the greatest revelation of purpose and Divine Assignments, was none other than my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Himself. Scripture is filled with His expressions about single-mindedly doing and fulfilling His purpose–the will of the Father.

As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” John 9:4-5

“The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free,” Luke 4:18

“For I have come down from heaven to do the will of God who sent me, not to do my own will.” John 6:38

Indeed, doing the will of the Father is the divine assignment of every believer!

Your mission, if you chose to accept it, is to discover how you are called to do the will of the Father while you are here on the earth, and to do it will all your heart, for the glory of God.
